Final Proposal

The documentary that I will be producing is about whether paperback books are now going out of fashion due to an increase in people purchasing e-readers.

Aims:

The aims of my documentary will be to inform the audience about the different ways of reading a book and why paperback books are still worth reading from and that they should not just get an e-reader just because they think that it is fashionable. Throughout the documentary I will make sure that I will give my own knowledge and also make sure that the information that I had found is also given during the documentary to keep them intrigued and knowledgeable about the topic.

Content:

The content of my documentary will involve 2 to 3 interviews which would give me factual and reliable information, many different opinions and perspectives, fair and balanced sides of both arguments that I am looking at and quote other reliable sources for example different articles on Kindles and other e-readers. The people that I am looking at interviewing are the founder of the company Amazon.com, people who work in libraries as they know first hand how many people would visit the library just to borrow a book from them and I am also looking at interviewing someone form DC Comics as they are in partnership with Amazon who sell their comics.

Target Audience:

The target audience for my documentary is British males and females aged between 16 -24. Though the subject of my documentary is about books and why the paperback books seems to being going out of fashion, I will hopefully be able to interest both men and women by also including the comics I am able to broaden the audience as both men and women are known to read comic so this aspect should hopefully intrigue them. I will also make sure that when I make the documentary I will make sure that I am not bias and not giving too much of my own opinion to the audience so that they are able to form their own ideas.

Format:

The format of my show will be participatory mode as I will have a presenter in who will likely be in the entire documentary, though I may have moments where it is performative as I may do a log where I show the differences of people who read a paperback and a e-reader by having two people one reader a paperback and the other an e-reader and see who is more likely to put it down for another piece of technology. I will also make sure that I am fully involved in the show as I am the presenter and that what I produce is interesting to the audience.

Genre:

The Genre will be a documentary. This means that they way I structure my programme will as though it is a documentary so it will not contain many things that you would typically see in any other programme like a competition or a live performance from a band. I will also make sure that it is structured more like a docu series so it follows my journey to a certain extent.

Style:

Throughout my documentary I hope I will be able to film in a numerous amount of different places so that the audience stay intrigued and do not bore of the documentary easily, so I hope with permission I could film in a library or a book store so that they can get the feel of the topic. I will also make sure that their is at least 2 to 3 different interviews so that the information that is given is different and is from a range of peoples different perspectives so that the audience is able to see that not everyone has the same view on the topic, I will also include vox pops just to see the general public's views and opinions. I have also decided to include graphics so that when I am doing an interview you know he I am speaking to and also when I am doing voice overs people may not listen so I would put graphics so they could read what I am saying. The graphics will contain all the facts that I found out.

I will also make sure that when I make my documentary there will be a range of different shot types so that it keeps the audience intrigued, also because my topic is not a serious matter I would likely use close ups of certain things for example during the interviews and maybe close ups of the books in the library. I would mostly use mid-shots and long shots so they can fully capture what Ii am trying to show the audience.
